Drawing in Stone revealed the studies created for the projects that comprise the First Stone programme. These studies were materialized through drawings, which in this exhibition were the central focal point.

As a rule, both in the areas of design and architecture, drawing is one of the first tools used in the exploration of ideas and concepts. Drawing is a natural action for authors who operate within the field of project culture and is representative of a form of creation which feeds an entire process. There are various steps between a drawing and its materialization: the three-dimensional artefact that can be used by the public. Often, these steps alter the first sketches, which are then redrawn countless times until they become set in the form of a technical drawing, ready for production.

This exhibition presented a preliminary collective overview of the approach taken by the 23 authors invited to explore a material with a strong identity – stone – through the drawings they produced, both manually and digitally. Furthermore, it showed the 19 Portuguese stones chosen by the authors for the production of their projects, revealing them to the audience in a non-sculpted format, as well as providing a first contact with the pieces produced, through drawings and words.
