Mulheres de Lisboa

Lisbon, Portugal

The work of Portuguese sculptor Francisco Simões is inseparable from the female figure, which the artist classifies as the most beautiful thing in the universe. One of his most iconic works is the series Mulheres de Lisboa (Women of Lisbon), from 1994. These sculptures are permanently installed in the Campo Pequeno subway station in Lisbon. They are made mostly of different types of portuguese marble, limestone and granite, and ornamented with semi-precious gemstones such as agate and onyx.
