Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown

Lisbon, Portugal

Inaugurated on the 5th of October 2010, the Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown is a centre for cancer research and treatment designed by the Goan architect Charles Correa.

A large building, it extends along the bank of the Tagus River and is composed of two main blocks connected by an elevated walkway. The main material of its structure is Lioz stone, and the sobriety of its light rosy colour with the glittering reflection of the river seems to produce an effect that is both calming and soothing.
