Burgo Building

Porto, Portugal

Consisting of a 3-storey horizontal volume and a 17-storey tower built for offices, this project was designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura, winner of the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2011. Extremely visible, the grey tower overlooks the busy Avenida da Boavista. The Porto-born architect devised aluminium and granite modules to cover the façade of the building, positioning them in a way that creates the illusion that it is formed by several stacked parts. Apart from providing great resistance, the granite also gives the building a uniform aesthetic with an illusion of superimposition.
