O Peso da Pedra

Miguel Vieira Baptista

The piece Hipódromo derives from an interest in the construction methods used in Roman antiquity, more specifically in the fixing solutions for the various stone elements used in the construction of the columns of such buildings. This centrepiece is made up of seven loose and heavy elements that when placed together give the piece’s final form. On the other hand, the Eclipse bowls and the Secção tray are independent pieces that can also lean against each other in different ways, creating new pieces. Their cuts open up the traditional shape of the containers, allowing these pieces to rest against each other and revealing the design of their profiles.
